Job interviews can be daunting. Your CV has done its work and got you through the door for an interview. You really want the job and you want to make a good impression on the people interviewing you – you may even feel a bit nervous.  These 5 interview tips will help put you at ease:

Do your research on the company

Their website if your friend here; read about how they started. Have a browse of their news and blog sections to see what the organisation has recently been up to. Have a Google to what else comes up online about the company.

Be on time

Early is on time, on time is late and late is unacceptable! We recommend that you arrive for your interview 10 minutes early. Beforehand, make sure you know where you’re going and allow plenty of time for travel.

If your interview is online, ensure your logins are sorted and your technology is ready to go. Blaming technology for lateness is an absolute no no! And remember to that your check your background is clear of clutter and appropriate for an interview setting. You can always blur your background if that’s easier.

Dress appropriately

Some organisations expect suited and booted, whereas others may be a bit more relaxed. Check the website to see what the dress code is and emulate that. Same rules apply for online interviews.

Ask questions and be curious

A job interview is a two-way process, so ask plenty of questions to see if the company is a good fit for you! Ask what they like about the company and if they have any frustrations. Do they have any worries about hiring you?

This is your opportunity to find out about the job, the team, potential boss, company, and culture so use it! You could take your questions written down in a note pad – it’s a meeting after all!

Say thank you

Sending a follow-up thank you email to your interviewer is great way to be remembered for the right reasons. It also gives you another opportunity to show that you are very interested in the opportunity.
